State Library of Queensland

Unfortunately I found out about Kerry Argent’s book launch too late! Bookings and payments had to be made yesterday! It would have been fantastic to meet Kerry Argent and view some of her original artwork and see how the book was made.
There was even a prize for the fanciest shoes!
I discovered loads of interesting events at the State Library of Queensland on their blog. Have a look: booklinksinc.wordpress.com

There’s also a section on ReadUp, a fantastic program that libraries are participating in to encourage young children to read more. I know the Redcliffe Library supports ReadUp. Each child receives their own library card and stamp card. Each time they visit the library they receive a stamp and once the card is full (6 stamps) they are presented with a gorgeous certificate. My girls are excited as they are over half-way to collecting their first certificate. Participants can earn 5 collectable ReadUp certificates created by Award winning Australian illustrators Kerry Argent, Peter Carnavas, Clare McFadden, Narelle Oliver and Gregory Rogers.
See if your local library has ReadUp and join now!
Happy Reading!

    • Hi Cath,
Thanks for the info about the ReadUp launch you went to. Looks like you had a great time meeting Narelle and Peter. Have you heard about the Travelling Suitcases? I was at the Library on Saturday – due to the rain I was able to go to Kerry Argent’s book launch – and I picked up a pamphlet about the Travelling Suitcases. They’re great for teachers and school libraries. There are 5 suitcases, each one showcasing a different author or illustrator. One suitcase is full of Narelle Oliver’s books and also includes a dvd of how and where she created her stories, rough drafts and storyboards, activity ideas and curriculum links and notes. I saw Kerry Argent’s Travelling Suitcase and it is fantastic! I’ve been following the Book Links blog – http://booklinksinc.wordpress.com/ All the information is on there.
