Alphabet Soup

I’ve been following the Alphabet Soup blog since I came across it a while ago when searching for writing competitions for children. My 7 year old daughter loves to write stories and poems and draw pictures and she has entered a few Alphabet Soup competitions.

A couple of months ago I received the Winter Issue, 2012 “Alphabet Soup” Magazine and I was really impressed.  The magazine was full of wonderful stories and poems with bright illustrations and book reviews for kids.  This issue had a question and answer section with Peter Carnavas.  I love all of Peter Carnavas’ books!!  It also had poems and stories written by children, book reviews by children, writing and drawing competitions (with $20 book vouchers up for grabs), a crossword puzzle and writing tips from The Book Chook.  Children can even join the undercover readers club – a book reviewers club for kids aged 6 to 12.

One of the book reviews was for Australian Story: An Illustrated Timeline by Tania McCartney (creator of Riley the Little Aviator books).  The latest blog post from Alphabet Soup said that Tania was their featured author in the Autumn 2013 issue of Alphabet Soup Magazine. I read the question and answer section on their blog and it was very interesting and informative.

Alphabet Soup is a great magazine for kids and if you would like to subscribe or know of a school or library that would like to subscribe (1 year subscription is $29.80 and you receive 4 issues of Alphabet Soup) have a look at their website – http://www.alphabetsoup.net.au
