Tania McCartney’s Book Launch

On Saturday 19th October, my two girls and I attended Tania McCartney’s (author of Eco-Warriors to the Rescue! and the Riley the Little Aviator series and from the Kids’ Book Review website) book launch of her new children’s picture book “An Aussie Year – Twelve Months in the life of Australian Kids” at the Black Cat Bookshop and Cafe in Paddington.

Michael Gerard Bauer, award-winning author of children’s and young adult books introduced “An Aussie Year”  and then talented author and illustrator duo, Tania and Tina had the children enthralled, introducing the book’s five characters, reading sections from the book and asking lots of questions.

“An Aussie Year” is a fabulous resource for home and school.  I’m looking forward to using it in my classroom.  With Tina’s bright quirky illustrations, the book highlights activities, festivals and special days that Aussie kids celebrate each month.   For example, in March we have Clean up Australia Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Close the GAP day and Harmony Day.

After Tania finished reading, it was time for the children to fill their bags with lollies from the lolly-bar, colour in pictures of the characters from Tania’s book and line up to get their booksImage signed.  We took along our copy of “Eco Warriors to the Rescue!” to get signed too!  It was a very enjoyable day.

    • It was lovely to meet you too. The week after your launch I showed my year one children your “Aussie Year” book which they loved and we read through October. Tomorrow I will show them November and we will talk about all the fabulous things that kids can do in November. For Children’s week we did up a terrific display of our favourite authors and illustrators and I emailed it in hoping we’d come second (as second prize was a visit from you!) but I had an email back letting me know that only schools in the Canberra area could enter. Oh well, we still had loads of fun working on the display and the children drew some very cute pictures of your characters Zoe and Lily.
