Making Ends Meet

The waterfront was crowded with hundreds of tourists, all eyes skyward, cameras poised, trying to capture their best shot of the famous “Eddison” statue before the heaven’s opened.

Like Lila had done every Sunday for the last six months, she weaved her way in and around the distracted crowd, her skates gliding along the concrete, her treacherous hands secretly lifting and rummaging, taking only what she needed to pay her mother’s hospital bills.
