Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers – Holiday Retreat

Here is the beautiful photo that Priceless Joy from Beautiful Words has posted this week for the Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers writing challenge. I thought it looked like a peaceful holiday destination.

Holiday Retreat

Katie stepped off the boat, and stared up at the cloud-capped mountains.  She breathed in the tranquil surroundings, thrilled that she had won an all expenses paid holiday to the enchanted island of Naturelle.

When Katie’s ticket arrived she had perused the pamphlet, highlighting hot oil massages, meditation, bush walks,  African drumming and sanskrit nagna yoga.   Katie had never practised yoga before so she added it to her list of experiences to try.

In the bungalow, Katie unpacked and changed into her favourite Lorna Jane ensemble.  She then took a leisurely stroll through the exotic tropical orchard to the lake for her first yoga session.

“Namaste,” said the instructor, bowing to the group.   “Welcome to a land of pureness that absorbs the light shining within; where we become one with Mother Nature, baring our skin to the earth.   Now, please remove your clothes and we will begin.”

Horrified, Katie back pedalled as fast as she could and retreated to her bungalow, where she stayed for the remainder of her holiday.

I’m going on a yoga retreat this weekend.  Hope it’s not the same one Katie went to! 🙂

  1. Haha! I think I would have done the same thing that Katie did. But then, it does sound like she is too wrapped up in her clothes and their labels. Now that I think about it, maybe she should have taken those clothes off and experienced the full yoga enlightment. Very nice Rachel!
